The Skunk River Riot will begin their Fall 2023 Spring 2024 Season Wednesday, Sept 6th. Please check this site periodically for events and updates as we get things scheduled. Also new this year, home bouts located at Sports Iowa in Ames. Yay! We’re happy to finally play at home!
Our team took a nice break over the summer. During that time, we had a few loyal teammates move or retire so we have a somewhat new-ish team this season. We’re a good mix of seasoned skaters and freshmeat.
Remember - derby IS a family friendly event so bring the kids to the bouts!

This is our first time playing this team and on new local turf! We anticipate a great time and we need your support! Concessions and Merch available. This will be an all-female (AF) bout.
See ya! We will be traveling to Eldrige, IA to play the Quad City Rollers. Wish us luck! We always need it with this awesome, tough team. If you’re coming to see us, tickets can be purchased at the door. Merch and refreshments available.
Hey! Come watch us play or better yet, get involved by being a volunteer (set up/clean up, etc.) We want to see your faces! Kingdom Hoops is a new venue to us and we’re excited to play. Enjoy the concessions while we entertain you for the evening.
After-party: TBD *We usually try to find a family-friendly place to hang after since we have some U-21 members on the team and majority of the team has “lil’ stinkers” that tag along to support their moms.
The Riots will be hosting the Sioux Falls Roller Dollz. This bout will consist of both teams bringing competitive co-ed teams for your entertainment.
AFTER PARTY - Sweet Caroline’s, Ames, IA. 50010 (Downtown Ames). We will be on the upper level. Parking and entrance is available front and back of building. Food & Drink available - under 18 friendly.
Doors open to the public at 6:00pm. The Riots will be playing Old Capital City RD out of Iowa City! This will be a great match! Don’t miss out. Tickets available at the door for $10/ticket sold by a skater, $12/person at the door, Kids 10 and Under FREE. Military $2 discount. Snack bar onsite.
We will be supporting a local “sister club” the ISU Women’s Hockey team at Big Wigs in Ames, IA. It’s always a great and entertaining night with Coco hosting. Games are free, but donations are most appreciated as it IS a fundraiser for them. Help yourself to the bar!
The Riots are seeking a team to play away from home. Please send us an email if you know any teams looking to host. UPDATE: This bout has been CANCELLED. We could not find a team to play. But we are 100% on for Nov 12 at HOME - MVP Sports!

Sorry folks! This event is closed to the public due to a lack of space for spectators. But we do invite those new to playing derby aka “ Freshmeat” and new to officiating to participate. This scrimmage is for players that have had 3 or fewer years experience playing. Vets will officiate and act as coaches. No spectators allowed (the space is just TOO small).
The Riots are open to scheduling bouts for 2022, Feb - May. We consider ourselves a level B team and are willing to travel up to 5 hours away (+/-) to play.
Home Turf locations: Baqara Skate - Newton, IA & Nat’l Guard Armory - Boone, IA
We are taking this year to recover and regain members. The good news is - most of our players have returned to practice w safety precautions in place and are hungry for action. We assume other teams are doing the same but are unsure of which Midwest teams have survived the time off and will be ready to bout. So - our competition awaits.

The Riots are gaining momentum in central Iowa! We will be taking on a variety of players from the Mid-West. If thrashing and crashing and bashing on skates is your thing (or maybe you just don’t know it yet) come check us out. We’ll provide the action, you provide the cheers. Baqara will provide the beers (and other drinks!) We’re family friendly.
TICKETS: $13/ all ages *Please note your ticket does NOT include the public skating. This was OUR mistake and we sincerely apologize for the mis-understanding! Public skating is available at additional cost.
